The Hollywood Games

All the big movie stars of the era turned out for the first Games in Los Angeles. You could bump into Gary Cooper or Cary Grant or the Marx Brothers. But the biggest star was Mildred (Babe) Didrikson, arguably the greatest female athlete of this century. Didrikson won the javelin and the hurdles and placed second in the high jump. She would later go on to be one of the greatest female golfers and one of the few women to pitch against major league baseball players.
